Tooth number 46 needed to be crowned but root canals didn't give evidence of perfect and complete treatment. You can see on the right picture how the three root canals have been re-treated to prevent any infectious complication before doing a cosmetic crown to restore this tooth.
All four lower incisors had unperfect root canal treatments previously done. Before making (new) cosmetic crowns, re-treatment was performed on every tooth. Tooth 41 was presenting an amount of medical paste at this bottom but still an infected area underneath. A new treatment was performed through the rear of the initial one (you can even see the new treating paste entering the infected bone area from behind the big white initial paste amount). 6 lower teeth by this patient had to be re-done because of infection evidence following unsuccessful initial treatments !!!
Tooth 36 was a real nightmare !!! There was a mis-routing in the distal canal and as a consequence the dental surgeon having done it, decided to put the pin he was planning to put in the distal canal to stabilize his future crown in one of the mesial canals...what he did successfully but...without taking previously care of completing in a perfect way the mesial canals treatment. Finally he made a crown above and...said everything was OK to his patient. One year later the patient made an appointment for advice, because having more and more often pain under his crown and suspecting a problem with the root canals. He was...right !!! A new root canals treatment (3 hours long) was done to save the tooth (right picture).
Some more unperfect root canals treatments (both distal roots of teeth 46 and 47) on the left picture. The patient was suffering mainly from an infection at the bottom of the distal root of tooth 47 (the very left one). You can see on the right picture the new root canals treatments performed and the perfect filling of these root canals on both teeth. Mesial canals were checked as well but no re-treated cause silent.
Some more examples of root canals treatments which have been re-done.
A second right upper molar and a first left upper molar treated from the very beginning under local anesthesia : note the perfect filling of the different root canals.
Root canals treatments are the key of accurate and safe dentistry !!!
